It focuses on giving better living conditions to domesticated companion rabbits and encourages adopting them instead of shopping for them. The day's mission statement is:\n\nBunnies everywhere deserve a better life and International Rabbit Day will focus on giving them just that. It is also a day for bunny caregivers to exchange ideas and hear about the latest developments in rabbit habitats, toys, welfare, health and behaviour. Hop to it and organise an educational/fundraising event to help less fortunate bunnies have a better day too.\n\nInternational Rabbit Day has a different theme each year. Rabbit societies and animal welfare organizations give advice on pet rabbits about topics such as emotional well-being, handling, exercise, diet, and veterinary care. On celebrations during the day's early years, The Rabbit Charity offered free leaflets about keeping pet rabbits safe and hosted a Carrot Top Awards in an attempt to find the best bunnies in the world. After 2002, The Rabbit Charity website was taken down. After a long hiatus, Cottontails (which may be their successor) took it over, and they have continued the International Rabbit Day tradition.",
